We prepare young adults with the skills needed for independent living.

At Nuevo Amanecer Latino Children’s Services (NALCS), we prepare transitional-age youth with the tools and resources needed to achieve independence after foster care. Since 2013, we have provided Independent Living Life Skills (ILP) trainings that focus on building confidence, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.

ILP Training Topics Include:

  • College 101 and navigating higher education
  • Applying for and understanding financial aid
  • Housing options and stability planning
  • Money management and budgeting skills
  • Employment readiness and career development
  • Gang awareness and prevention strategies
  • STI prevention and safe sex education
  • Drug awareness and prevention
  • Access to additional community resources

Our Community Connections

To expand opportunities for youth, NALCS collaborates with a network of organizations and programs that actively participate in ILP trainings, offering real-world guidance and mentorship.

Our Impact Through ILP

Since 2009, Nuevo Amanecer Latino Children’s Services (NALCS) has proudly supported and graduated 136 youth between the ages of 16 and 19 through its Independent Living Program (ILP). Of those participants, 15 youth (11%) successfully graduated from high school and continued their education at a UC, CSU, community college, or trade school.

Looking at the bigger picture, since 2002, 28 youth connected with NALCS—including both ILP graduates and non-participants—have gone on to complete high school and pursue higher education opportunities. These achievements reflect our ongoing commitment to equipping youth with the skills, guidance, and encouragement they need to reach their full potential.
